who needs a truck ...?

... when you have Dodge Stratus (coupe)? Seriously, what can this car not do? The poor thing, i've put it through so much pain these past 2 years. It doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. Latest on the list of abuses -- a multitude of trim. Let's do the totals here: 18 pcs. oak quarter-round (8'), 4 - 2x4s (8'), 6 pcs. 4" (roughly) oak crown moulding (10'), 29 pcs. 3" (roughly) pre-primed pine crown moulding (some 10', some 8'), a set of sawhorses, 50' of air hose ... and me. The only thing missing was the 13 pcs. of white quarter-round because Menards was out of it (got 'em at Lowe's yesterday).

The process of installing has begun, sort of. I stained the oak qtr round/shoe moulding last week and gave it it's 2 coats of shellac on Saturday. I also made a quick work-station for the miter saw out of the 2x4s. It sits on a set of sawhorses and gives the long pieces of trim some support while cutting. Hopefully the first piece will hit the wall this week. Only about a year late ... hmph. I'll claim "dog ate miter saw" as my excuse.

We've begun accumulating materials for the kitchen and downstairs bath projects also: new faucets for both, a shower head and controls, a kitchen sink, and a bathroom vanity. We're actually gonna try to cancel our bathroom vanity order ... we saw almost the same one at Lowe's, but in a slightly better finish (cherry vs. "dark chocolate" a.k.a. black). I'm also contemplating switching sinks, we'll see about that (me being picky). Purchasing these items was a friendly reminder that good kitchen/bath hardware is expensive! yikes. We've also started looking at colors for the kitchen ... comtemplating a brownish venetian plaster. We'll see how ambitious we feel when that time comes.

Chrissy's Valentine's present finally arrived on Friday ... we went to see
Cirque du Soleil's Delirium at Conseco. It was really impressive. Weird, very weird, but impressive nonetheless. Hard to describe, but a mixure of music/singing, dance, acrobatics, and interesting imagery. The stage was long and narrow with huge screens on each end. The actual stage had semi-transparent retractable screens that showed corresponding visuals also at times. Again, hard to describe. If you go to Youtube there are some short videos of it (don't watch the one called "Cirque du Soleil - Delirium, Madison Square Garden NYC", it's mixed with some weird other music). We had some great seats at the right edge of the stage 2 rows from the floor (just a bit above stage level) that i found on Ebay. Kind of a funny story actually ... the guy i got them from had 2 sets of 2 right beside each other. The auctions were about 45 seconds apart. I bid up the first set and ditched at the last second to grab the other ones. Ended up getting them for $30 less. I forgot that i'd be sitting next to the other bidder. We got there first, but after a minute or two the guy beside me asked about it. Luckily, he was really nice and we got a good laugh out of it. After some past concert experiences, we were very thankful to have good people beside us.

Since the last post (yeah yeah, it's been a while) we celebrated a mass of birthdays ... Chrissy's dad hit the big 5-0, my dad 59, my mom & aunt (ages withheld to protect the innocent), and i even hit 22 for the 7th time (that's 28 if you don't want to do the math). We be old.

One of my favorite times of the year has also begun ... the first warm days of the year just in time for the NCAA tourney. Purdue is finally back in this year. That alone is a huge victory for Purdue after the teams they had the past few years (bad, terrible, worse, worser, worstest). Looks like Coach Painter is getting that program back where it should be. I have a feeling that productivity will be near an all-time low at the end of this week. Oh, and i realized that my old high school's basketball team is doing really well. They play in semi-state this coming Saturday! Pretty amazing.

Anywho, here's to continued nice weather ...
